Hi,
Thanks to all for calling and for writing, for good wishes and for praying.
In order to pass along accurate info about what is going on, and to reduce the number of times I have to repeat the story by phone or by email, I felt it would be a good idea to set up a website journal.  Anytime anyone is interested in seeing how things are going, please just drop by this page for updates.
THE LATEST NEWS IS AT THE TOP.
Warmest regards,
Laura

You're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

2011

As of Dec 1, I have just passed the 8 year anniversary of my diagnosis with CML.

November 02 -     Again we have received good news.  The PCR study shows 0.000 Philly Chromosomes out of 100,000 cells tested. So I am still in total remission.

2010

  • November 17 Again we have received good news.  The PCR study shows 0.000 Philly Chromosomes out of 100,000 cells tested. So I am still in total remission. Life is good!

  • June 16 -     We have received good news. ALL MY BLOOD CAME BACK Good.  The PCR study shows 0.000 Philly Chromosomes out of 100,000 cells tested.

  • February 1 -  Again we have received good news.
I just received the results, ALL MY BLOOD CAME BACK PERFECT.
AND, no more side effects with the change to Sprycel. What a huge difference in my quality of life!

By the way, the Bubble Massage Tub is getting lots of use.

2009

  • Nov. 3 - After almost 6 years of debilitating symptoms from Gleevec, I went to see Dr. G at Hackensack for a consultation  about medication.  We decided to give a newer drug named SPRYCEL a try. Wish me luck.

  • August 19 - Once again we have received good news.
ALL MY BLOOD CAME BACK PERFECT.
    The PCR/ABL (9;22) Fusion Test result was 0.000 !
They found ZERO Philly chromosomes out of the 100,000 cells tested.  I am still in total remission!!
Reds, Whites and Platelets were all within normal range, as well.  Woo Hoo!
And the new bubble tub has been a blessing for my hip and back.

  • June - Off topic, but I have been struggling with severe pain in my back and right leg. After 3 years of unsuccessfully treating it as a back problem, it turns out that the pain is originating from my dysplastic right hip. After several tests, including MRI's, x-rays, etc. it was decided to do a fluoroscopically directed injection of cortisone directly into my right hip joint.  Major OUCH!

In addition to the injection were several treatments of acupuncture, cupping and deep therapeutic massage therapy. The good news is I am so very much better. The question is how long it will last...

In the mean time, it has become apparent that my body is desperately in need of hydrotherapy.  When we lived in Basking Ridge, we had a whirlpool tub installed that had been critical to my ability to function.  After three years in this new house without the benefits of my tub, it is evident that I am not going to be able to function without my 2 hour soaks every other night.

Currently, my master bathroom is gutted and a new Kohler Bubble Massage Tub is sitting in the garage awaiting installation.  Hope it helps...

  • April 20 -   Again we have received good news.
I just received the results, ALL MY BLOOD CAME BACK PERFECT.

I wish you all Happiness and Good Health!
Laura

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty, well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming,
 "WOW--What a Ride!"

Good CML Info http://www.cmlsupport.blogspot.com/

Medscape - They have an on-line doctor training session on CML and the uses of imatinib (Gleevec) and the other 2 newer CML agents and issues with toxicity.  I spent about 30 minutes going through it.  Definitely worth the time although a little might be over your head - this is training for doctors so quite in-depth.
