The
Labrador Retriever is the nation's number one breed ... and for good
reason. The Labrador is an adaptable, loving, intelligent and
even-tempered dog. A true family companion, the Labrador
integrates himself into every aspect of the family life with ease
and enthusiasm.
Labrador
Breed Standards are established to describe the "ideal" for the
breed and to describe what characteristics distinguish the Labrador
from every other breed.
While the Labrador is a reasonably low maintenance
dog, please do not underestimate the time and attention he will
require and demand from you and your family. The breed is intended
to be a companion and helper to his human family members
– he will not be ignored! To achieve his
fullest potential, your Labrador will need to be incorporated into
your family activities as a full participant.
Labradors are intelligent and very trainable and,
accordingly, they will need plenty of stimulation and exercise. As
puppies, Labradors are very curious and eager students. Much of the
training foundation can be laid within the first few months after
the puppy joins your family. Your Labrador will want to please you.
He will work happily for food rewards, but will be just as eager
for words of praise and encouragement. |
